Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)
What is an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)?
An Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) is an evaluation conducted by a qualified, unbiased third party when parents disagree with a school-based evaluation or with the school’s decision not to evaluate specific areas of concern. IEEs are regulated under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which grants parents the right to request an independent evaluation at public expense in certain circumstances. An IEE may address social, behavioral, emotional, language, and/or academic concerns that impact a student’s functioning and performance in the school setting.
What is IDEA?
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a federal law that ensures students with disabilities receive a free and appropriate public education (FAPE). IDEA protects the rights of children and families by outlining how schools identify, evaluate, and provide special education services to support students’ educational success.
